AM 40 MULTI PURPOSE TILE ADHESIVE

AM 40
MULTI PURPOSE TILE ADHESIVE

Is a cement based multi-purpose tile adhesive containing POLYMERIC BINDER™, giving an extra strong bonding ability, practical and  ready to use by just adding water.

ADVANTAGES

  • Prevents tiles from exploding or popping up.
  • Perfect bonding without entrapment of air.
  • Vibration resistant at locations near heavy-load traffic.
  • Practical. Formula ready for application, saves time and labour.

APPLICATION AREA

  • Exterior and interior.
  • Dry and wet.
  • For floors and walls.

TYPES OF TILES

  • Homogeneous tiles (water absorbency < 0,5 %).
  • Ceramic tiles (water absorbency > 6%).
  • Natural stones.
  • Mosaic.
  • Marble and granite.

For wall application, note heights and tile sizes (stone, marble, granite, mosaic).

SUBSTRATES

Concrete, plaster and tile on tile.

1. PREPARATION STAGE

  • Surface should be as flat as possible to ensure economic use of tile adhesive.
  • Clean substrate of dust, paint, oil, fats and other dirts.
  • Moisten substrate using moist sponge/cloth.
  • Substrate of plaster should be at least 7 days old. 28 days old will give maximum result.

Notes: Tiles do not have to be soaked in water.

2. MIXING STAGE

  • Clean water to AM 40 Powder mixing ratio = 1 part : 3 parts.
  • Pour water into mixing bucket.
  • Add AM 40 Powder gradually, mixing with a cement paddle, then mix thoroughly with a mixer. The well-mixed substance should be a paste.
  • Leave for 5 minutes to allow full  activation of the polymer and additive.

3. APPLICATION STAGE

  • Mix again to a paste, then spread on the surface area using a cement paddle.
  • Smoothen the paste at the application surface  with a smooth edged trowel. Spread a thin layer of paste, using some pressure to ensure the paste fills the surface thoroughly.
  • Apply a second layer of paste using a notched trowel at a 60°angle.
  • Immediately lay the tiles on the wet paste, tapping with a rubber mallet to obtain good bondage.
  • Clean excessive adhesive at the tile joints before it dries.
  • After the tiles are laid, do not step on them for 24 hours, then  proceed to grout the joints.

4. EXPANSION JOINT

Locations for Expansion Joints must be designated at the planning stage of the building. Expansion Joints should be located at every 5 meter section of the floor, at all corners of the rooms, or at locations where the floor borders different material. The Expansion Joints must be clear of any excessive adhesive material and filled with a flexible border product such as silicon sealants.

NOTES:

  • Do not add other materials to the AM 40 product.
  • Prepare a mixture to taste used up in a maximum of 60 minutes.
  • It is recommended to smear the surface of the application area per tile to prevent the adhesive from drying before the tile is installed.
  • Specially a wide tile type (> 60 x 60 cm) or an uneven rear tile, add an adhesive by smearing the back of the tile to make the tiles perfectly sealed.
  • Applications with trowels prevent air from getting trapped, making the tiles perfectly seal and preventing the lifting of the tiles (popping).
  • Store in a closed state, dry place and at room temperature.
  • For submerged areas it is recommended to use AM 30 - Extra Strong Tile Adhesives.
